Proposed Interior Layout | Alternate Interior LayoutGeneral Concept
The design objective for this 43' motor yacht / trawler yacht has been to achieve an all-ocean vessel that has sufficient space for two cabins, but that is able to take advantage of a variety of readily available four cylinder marine diesel engines. The Far Horizon shown here has an interior layout that's nearly the same as the Greatheart 48. The bow profile of the Greatheart 48 has been retained combined with a fantail stern characteristic of my tug-yacht designs. This is the perfect transom for a metal boat, both classic and highly functional..!
Although the model shown here has been given bilge keels, they are not a requirement. The bilge keels as shown would however be ideal for taking the ground upright, and would provide added roll attenuation both at anchor and under way.
Particulars of the Far Horizon are:
- 43 ft - Length on Deck
- 13 ft - Beam
- 4.7 ft - Draft at DWL
- 36.7 ft - WL Length
- 12 ft - WL Beam
- 41,000 b - Displacement Light
Power
Engine choices are plentiful among the 4 cylinder marine diesels that are available worldwide. For example, the four cylinder John Deere would be perfect, as would the similarly sized Lugger or the Cat 3304-B. Hull speed will be around 8.5 knots. Range as planned would be over 3,000 NM at 7 knots.
Layout
As compared to the Greatheart 48, the Far Horizon has shorter ends in order to fit a similar interior into a shorter overall length. The Proposed Interior Layout is optimized for a couple with two children, or for a couple with guests. The spare sleeping cabin is aft, having two quarter berths and a big desk on center aft. A settee in the Pilot House will seat four comfortably. Forward, the galley is located on both sides below the companionway. Forward of that is the head to port, and shower / tub to starb'd. The forward stateroom is for the owners, and features an island berth right forward with generous hanging lockers and shelves for storage.
With a large flush fore-deck, there is plenty of room in the accommodation space below forward. On the aft deck there is an aft-facing seat which creates headroom within the aft cabin. The aft deck seat would be an ideal spot for fishing or wake-watching... or arranged with a table, the perfect spot for on-deck dining.
