The Concept
Designed to be a simple aluminum power craft the 30' SWEET OKOLE concept design is presented here. 'Okole' means 'Butt' in Hawaiian. Although the design is similar to the 30' Buster in many ways, the hull form is that of the 30' Boojum, having similar beam, draft and displacement. Very sweet indeed.
Sweet Okole, like her sister ships, is robust and intended for ocean service.
Please see the above links for views of the interior. The layout is quite simple, and there is a generous 'midship' bridge deck. The galley is 'up' so there is a good view. Since there is such a generous midship lounging area on deck, an alternate cabin arrangement is sketched in the profile view which would extend the pilot house farther aft. This would have the
benefit of giving quite a lot more space inside. In so doing, as can be seen in the plan view, the aft cabin would widen out to the bulwark for even more room there.
The fantail is a natural way to end a single chine metal yacht... The single chine shape is easy to achieve with any panel material, so it would be simple to build a mold in order to construct the hull in fiberglass, or even to build the design in plywood.
Being a prototype, there are other layout possibilities that could be created, not only with the interior but also with the hull form, the preferred materials and so on... This kind of flexibility is one of the essential benefits of working with a prototype or new design.
