CONCEPT
The Pacific Raider was created as a design study for a client who wanted to convert a heavy duty Gulf Coast fishing trawler into a yacht for personal use. The requirements originally were to make use of the existing hull, and to provide a superstructure that would allow the maximum interior volume for accommodations. At 76 feet overall length, and with two accommodation levels throughout, there is no shortage of accommodation space.
LAYOUT
The exterior deck is at one level. This provides ample walk-around space, as well as a large anchor handling area.
The main interior decks are at three levels. The pilot house is raised fairly high above the fore deck for maximum visibility. The pilot house is small and business-like. Access to the pilot house is via doors to port and starb'd. Access is provided downward to the utility space below the pilot house, and from there aft into the engine space and forward into the foc's'l
utility / chain locker area.
Aft of the pilot house is a owner's cabin on the main deck, having an en-suite head and small office.
Aft in the main house is the saloon and galley. A stairway is provided leading down to the twin guest cabins aft of the engine room. Separate head compartments are provided for each.
Aft of the guest cabins below is a laundry - utility area, and aft of that, the lazarette.
Above the saloon is a large "boat deck" for water toys, and forward of that, above the pilot house, there is a generously sized flying bridge providing extremely good visibility for maneuvers, as well as a big lounging area around the aft part.
STRUCTURE
The Pacific Raider structure is all steel, specified according to the ABS scantling rule for Motor Pleasure Yachts. Stability is according to the IMO requirements for offshore vessels, including the IMO extended weather criteria.
Interior materials have been chosen to provide a traditional elegance. For an extended family or for a couple who enjoy entertaining, the Pacific Raider will provide a unique combination of ruggedness, seaworthiness, sea-kindliness, along with a generous accommodation.
PRELIMINARY CALCS
The preliminary design has a working displacement of 260,000 pounds, a draft of 8.5 feet, a waterline length of 70 feet, and a beam of 21 feet. The cabins provide 7' of standing headroom throughout. Mechanical spaces are arranged with a minimum of 6' - 8" headroom.
Preliminary calculation results for the Pacific Raider in the 'light ship' condition are as follows:
Length Waterline: 69.75 Ft
Hull & Keel Draft: 8 Ft
Beam Waterline: 19.5 Ft
Light Ship Displacement: 245,000 Lb
Light Ship Displacement to Length (D/L): 320
Displacement Hull Speed in Knots: 11.2 Knots
Engine HP for Displ. Speed: Approximately 560 HP
Efficient Voyaging Speed (S/L 1.1): 9.2 Knots
Theoretical Engine HP at S/L 1.1: Approximately 240 HP
You will note that the vessel is quite heavy and this is by intent - for maximum ability to take on a generous load of fuel, water and stores. Fuel capacity is 7,500 US gallons (28,400 liters). Keeping a 15% reserve of fuel, the vessel will have a 4,000 NM range at 9.2 knots.
A CLASSIC MOTOR YACHT
Pacific Raider is a true 'expeditionary' trawler yacht intended for world cruising; a vessel that will stand the test of the elements and that will provide a comfortable home on the water.
