The floats were modeled using Maxsurf, from a design supplied by Steve Goodwin, the builder of the airplane. Hydrostatics were provided by the Maxsurf companion program, Hydromax. The FAA requirement is to remain afloat in safe trim with any two compartments damaged in the floats. Once modeled, the floats were built from the lines plotted from Maxsurf.
The floats are successfully flying now. The larger image shows the Port Townsend waterfront in the background.
